Desbro was founded in 1898 in Nairobi, Kenya by Mr. Lakhmi Dass Sennik. The company started from a small repair shop into one of the largest importers and distributors of bicylces in East Africa.
In 1954, Mr. Desraj Sennik, son of Mr. Lakhmi Dass Sennik, incorporated DESBRO (KENYA) LTD and imported / distributed bicycles under its own brand name.
Thereafter, the company diversified its activities into industrial chemicals, laundry/dry cleaning machines, filter powders, and simultaneously manufacturing operations beyond Kenya to Uganda, Tanzania, Mauritius, Pakistan, Fiji, U.K. and Canada.
With effect from the 70's, the company diversified into industries and overseas operations with development of a Bicycle industry in Dar Es Salaam, Steel Rolling Mill in Mauritius, Steel Rolling Mill / Weldmesh manufacturing / Edible Oil production in Fiji, Nails / Barbed Wire production in New Hebrides, Plastic Pipes production in Pakistan, PVC Window and Door Profiles extrusion in South Africa and over a period of time consolidating its operation in the Indian Ocean region, East Africa, Middle East and Canada.
